Have you been keeping up with research in "lie detection?" Aldert Vrij has been researching this subject and is on the forefront of research in the field on what is called the Cognitive Load Theory, an approach to lie detection which taxes the thought process of the individual being questioned. The theory states in part that an individual has to "think" harder when lying. The cognitive load approach varies from arousal-based models which assume liars will be more aroused under questioning because of the fear of getting caught.
